Can We Understand the Bible in the Same Way?

Can we understand the Bible in the same way? Let’s face it, we are unique individuals with diverse backgrounds. We think differently from one another at times. What about the Bible? Is it possible for each of us to differ when it comes to the eternal truth of God? The Bible teaches God’s Word is truth (cf. Psalm 119:160; John 17:17). Thus, we understand that God’s Word is absolute truth. So, why do so many groups, including many educated men, disagree with the Lord’s church? One might say, “We cannot understand the Bible the same way and that is okay.” I find this remarkable, considering all the interactions we have in a day that require us to make the right interpretation. For instance, if you were to head up to the turnpike, once you go through the gate at Afton, you have a choice. If you were intending on going to Tulsa, you would cross the overpass, if you were intending on heading to Joplin, you would take the first right and not cross the overpass. Is it possible for all ...

Absolute Truth

“And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests and the Levites.”  This command, in Deuteronomy 17:18, was the law for the days when the children of God would want a king.  Although, God wanted his children to have faith in Him, He knew that they would want to physically see someone.  This being the case, God gave certain instructions for this new king.  The FIRST thing he was supposed to do was write a copy of God’s law.Why would he need to do this? God in His infinite wisdom knew that this king should know the Law of the Lord before he could be a righteous king.  After he had written the law with his own hand; he would have had a descent grasp of the law.  And every day when he would apply his statutes he would probably be more equipped to remember that law which he had copied. If a king copied the law ...

Truth

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?” John 18:37-38      The world says that truth is subjective, never absolute, and subject to one’s perception. In fact, you will often hear people speak of “my truth.” I suppose that is fine if you identify with the same truth found in the Word of Truth. Sadly, this is most often not the case. Sadly, we the church are not doing all that we could to plant the seed of truth in the hearts and minds of those we encounter on a daily basis.       Truth is an extremely valuable commodity. Truth is always the opposite of falsity. I cannot say something that is false and make it true. Water is not dry. Green is not orange. Wrong is not right. It is written, “Woe un...

Stop

I will hear what God Jehovah will speak; For he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: But let them not turn again to folly.  Psalm 85:8      Are you willing to hear God speak? I mean, are you really willing to hear God speak? In order to do so, you must stop. You must stop thinking that you are going to find God’s will outside of and in contradiction to His revealed Word. God speaks through His Word and no longer through the miraculous gifts that have ceased (1 Cor. 13:8-10; Jude 1:3). You must stop thinking that you will get by without the study of God’s Word. It is vital at all points and times of our days (Deut. 6:6-9; 2 Tim 2:15).  Stop Looking in the Wrong Places      You must stop looking for any other place for growth as a Christian. Reading denominational literature or motivational quotes will not help you grow, so stop. Someone who does not know the basics of New Testament Christianity (the Gospel Plan of Salvation, ...
