  I will hear what God Jehovah will speak; For he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: But let them not turn again to folly.  Psalm 85:8      Are you willing to hear God speak? I mean, are you really willing to hear God speak? In order to do so, you must stop. You must stop thinking that you are going to find God’s will outside of and in contradiction to His revealed Word. God speaks through His Word and no longer through the miraculous gifts that have ceased (1 Cor. 13:8-10; Jude 1:3). You must stop thinking that you will get by without the study of God’s Word. It is vital at all points and times of our days (Deut. 6:6-9; 2 Tim 2:15).  Stop Looking in the Wrong Places      You must stop looking for any other place for growth as a Christian.        We often speak of how important it is to study God’s Word. New Testament Christians must remember some basic rules of Bible study to help us to, “handle aright the Word of truth. (cf. 2 Tim 2:15). Who Is the Speaker?      A fundamental rule to Bible study is to consider who is speaking. Could you imagine what would happen if we did not consider the speaker? Take for instance Job 2:9. “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still hold fast thine integrity? Renounce God, and die. “  The speaker is certainly important wouldn’t you say? Who Is It Given To?      We would all agree that certain imperatives and instructions in the Word of God were given to specific people at a specific time. If I were to apply Genesis 6 to myself and start searching for Gophar wood to make an ark, someone would clearly say that this passage is not applicable to you. For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. James 1:23-24               We examine our appearances at some point every day. We often do it when we wake up and head to the bathroom where we see our face in the mirror.  Upon seeing that appearance, we make adjustments and change the condition by seeking to improve our disheveled state because we want to do the best we can to portray the best image of ourselves.              The Word of the Lord is the mirror for our souls.
