Why Should I Attend Bible Study?

“Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15            There is a Bible study that happens every week, twice a week. These studies are held in a location you frequent. It is comprised of your family and your brothers and sisters in Christ. The Bible is the textbook, and it is supported by book, chapter, and verse. It sounds like something that all Christians would seek to be present for. It is our weekly Bible studies at 9:45 AM and Wednesdays at 7:00 PM. If this sounds so good, why do our attendance numbers for the hour of worship differ from our Bible Study times? Why do we attend Bible study anyway?   Christians Study the Bible  We are commanded to study the Bible. Paul wrote,  “Till I come, give heed to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.” 1 Tim 4:13. When we meet together for Bible study it provides a great supplemen...

How to Study a Book of the Bible

Where do you begin when starting a study of any book of the Bible? The average person is just going to jump right into the text of that book and start looking at it verse by verse. Maybe you grab a trusted commentary and start reading through the text. Another option might be to find someone who has recorded a class about that book (why not glean from someone else’s teaching). Adler and Charles Van Doren and the title was simply, “How to Read a Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading.” How to read a book? Really?! Aren’t you suppose...

Absolute Truth

“And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests and the Levites.”  This command, in Deuteronomy 17:18, was the law for the days when the children of God would want a king.  Although, God wanted his children to have faith in Him, He knew that they would want to physically see someone.  This being the case, God gave certain instructions for this new king.  The FIRST thing he was supposed to do was write a copy of God’s law.Why would he need to do this? God in His infinite wisdom knew that this king should know the Law of the Lord before he could be a righteous king.  After he had written the law with his own hand; he would have had a descent grasp of the law.  And every day when he would apply his statutes he would probably be more equipped to remember that law which he had copied. If a king copied the law ...
